I'm going to guess this may be related to other software you may have for remapping controller buttons and such. Ideally, if at all possible, try to run the game on a fresh Windows install (maybe on another computer or even a VM) and see if you still have the issue.

I have access to both XBOX and DualSense controllers and they've always been recognised correctly in the game, whether it's through a 2.4GHz dongle or a bluetooth adapter.

I don't use any software to remap controllers. It also happens with more than one controller. And a friend of mine who I'm really hoping to have this fixed for has accessibility issues and needs to use a controller and it happens on their PC. It's also been a known issue in the past for many other players. Same issue whether I use Bluetooth or wired controller my friend uses a wired controller

I'm having the same issue. I'm using a Steam Controller and I've tried disabling Steam Input and all other sorts of recommendations presented in the Steam Forums and nothing works. This is an issue the developers need to address directly in the game menus on PC. They need to address functionality that allows you to select the controller layout that you want the game to display. Adding a XBOX glyph toggle would completely fix this issue.
