Experimental Version
Mission
Is it modded?
Description
The mechanic allowing enemies to listen into your radio traffic is currently poorly designed as it punishes players who seek to coordinate, communicate and work as a team.
Experienced players can navigate this mechanic easily enough, and may find it enjoyable.
Casual, inexperienced players (the majority of the team at most times) are typically unable to navigate this mechanic consistently, not using codewords, describing specifics that allow enemies to decipher their location etc.
So for an experienced Commander to maintain regular communication with the ENTIRE team, it is most practical to simply continue using the default platoon channel to coordinate and communicate, while knowing that very intel is being listened in on.
The enemy radio mechanic is a niche feature that negatively impacts core pillars of an authentic military experience, communication, coordination and teamwork. It needs to be reworked so it isn't so easy to obtain enemy comms, and allows the players to have a chance to develop and maintain these pillars without micromanaging a hardcore niche mechanic that many people are unaware of, and find difficult to navigate.
Some suggestions to rework would be.
Handheld radios do not allow listening in on enemy radio traffic
Backpack radios do allow listening in on enemy radio traffic
This would mean obtaining a device to listen into enemy radio traffic is harder to comeby, it takes up a backpack slot, and can be visually seen that an enemy has our radio comms.
As a regular Commander that finds the challenge of HQC enjoyable, this mechanic punishes me for attempting to effectively and efficiently communicate, and coordinate the team, unless I go the extra mile on top of what I'm already doing, and constantly remind and train players on comsec. Though that will negatively impact the momentum and trust I build with the team from gamestart, if I need to constantly nag to people about comsec...
