What happened?

I am experiencing a very specific performance issue in DayZ on PC.

When rapidly rotating the camera horizontally (left/right), my FPS drops from approximately 100–130 FPS to around 30 FPS.

The issue does NOT occur in the same way when:

  • rotating the camera vertically (up/down);

  • rotating the camera horizontally slowly;

  • looking at the sky;

  • looking toward the sea or other visually empty areas.

The issue is most noticeable when looking toward areas containing terrain, trees, buildings and other objects.

This is not limited to mouse input. I reproduced the exact same behavior using a controller.

Hardware:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600

  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1660 Super 6 GB

  • RAM: 16 GB

  • OS: Windows 10

Troubleshooting already performed:

  • Verified DayZ game files

  • Completely uninstalled and reinstalled DayZ

  • Tested vanilla/official servers and modded servers

  • Tested different mouse sensitivity settings

  • Tested different mouse polling rates

  • Tested with a controller

  • Reinstalled the NVIDIA GPU driver using DDU

  • Tested with FPS capped and uncapped

  • Disabled NVIDIA overlays/frame-generation features

  • Tested different DayZ configuration values, including object view distance

  • BattlEye logs do not show relevant blocked-file/errors

The issue has persisted across these tests.

The most consistent reproduction is:

  1. Enter a DayZ server.

  2. Find an area containing trees/buildings/terrain.

  3. Rotate the camera rapidly left/right.

  4. FPS drops from ~100–130 to ~30 FPS.

  5. Rotate the camera slowly → only a normal ~3–5 FPS reduction.

  6. Look toward the sky/sea and rotate rapidly → the severe FPS drop disappears.

  7. Rotate vertically → remains smooth.

This makes me suspect an issue related to scene rendering, object/LOD processing, or a specific engine thread triggered by rapid horizontal camera rotation rather than a normal GPU/CPU utilization bottleneck.

Could you please investigate whether this is a known engine/rendering issue?

Reproduction steps

I didn't do anything at all. The game was fine when i started playing, then i had a 3-4 weeks pause. I wanted to play again and i noticed that the game moves in an "uncanny" way when i move left/right.

    We are many others experiencing the same troubles.. on modded servers things like RAG basebuilding items renders fast, but everything static on the actual map causes lag and stutters, exactly the same way as this problem is reported.
