I would like to suggest adding a small, officially maintained test island with a minimal mission for mod development.
A simple, predictable environment would be useful for testing scripts, items, actions, animations, collisions and gameplay mechanics. It would also give modders and the development team a common starting point for reproducing issues.
Bohemia already provides the Terrain Sample. Building on that, a compiled, ready-to-launch test world with a documented testing workflow would make this more accessible to developers who primarily work on scripts or assets.
Suggested features:
- A small terrain, approximately 1 × 1 km, with a flat interior and a simple coastline.
- One standard ground surface.
- No buildings, roads, vegetation or placed objects.
- A fixed player spawn near the center.
- A minimal mission with automatic infected, animal, vehicle and loot spawning disabled by default.
- A documented local/offline launch procedure, including DayZDiag and loading additional mods.
- Example sources and configuration for extending the environment.
For tests involving replication or other server-dependent behavior, a matching minimal client/server mission template would also be useful. AI navigation testing could be supported through an appropriate navmesh.
The main benefit would be a shared, maintained baseline: modders could spend less time preparing a test scene, and reproduction reports could reference the same terrain and mission setup.
As a practical example, I have published a community implementation called Test Range:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3826868718
It provides a 1024 × 1024 m world with a flat concrete interior, a narrow coastal edge and surrounding ocean. It uses vanilla resources and includes an offline mission with a central player spawn and automatic economy spawning disabled.
This demonstrates the basic workflow. An official version maintained alongside game updates could provide a useful development resource for the wider modding community.
