Currently, when a user installs and opens the official DayZ Launcher for the first time, there is no direct prompt to set a custom in-game player name. The option is hidden deep inside the launcher parameters settings.
As a result, a vast number of players start playing under the default name Survivor. This causes massive identity confusion on community and official servers, clogging admin logs, player lists, and local chat with identical names.
In contrast, third-party launchers (like DZSA Launcher) immediately prompt players to choose a custom name upon launch, ensuring nearly everyone sets a unique identity before joining a server.
Rationale / Why it's needed:
Better Onboarding for New Players: Prevents beginners from accidentally playing under the generic Survivor tag simply because they didn’t know where to change it.
Server Administration & Logs: Helps server owners and admins easily identify players in logs, kill feeds, and ban lists without managing endless duplicate Survivor entries.
Improved Social UX: Makes it much easier for players to identify teammates and community members in-game.
Suggested Implementation:
Add a one-time setup pop-up/dialogue on first launcher start: "Enter your preferred in-game character name".
Place a prominent, easily accessible "Player Name" input field directly on the main/parameters tab of the official launcher.
