Messages defined in mpmissions/<mission>/db/messages.xml are never displayed in the in-game chat to connected players.
The server starts normally, the mission loads, players can join and play, but neither a repeating message nor an onConnect/onconnect message ever appears on the client.
Environment:
DayZ Server 1.30.164078 (dedicated server, app 223350), Linux (amd64), run in a Docker container (cm2network/steamcmd image) on Ubuntu
Map/mission: dayzOffline.nasdara
Client: PC, Windows
Additional information:
The file is readable by the server user (verified from inside the container); no XML or parse errors are logged in the RPT/script logs during mission load.
Tried both <onconnect> and <onConnect>, with and without <delay>/<repeat>/<deadline>/<shutdown> tags.
Reproduction steps
1) Set up a dedicated server with the default mission and edit mpmissions/dayzOffline.nasdara/db/messages.xml to contain:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?><messages><message><repeat>1</repeat><text>Test message #name</text></message><message><delay>1</delay><repeat>2</repeat><onconnect>1</onconnect><text>Welcome to my server #name</text></message></messages>
2) Restart the server, join with a client and stay connected for several minutes.
Exact build version (optional)
1.30.164078
Where did it happen?
Official
Is it modded?
No
Expected result
The test message appears in the in-game chat every minute, and the welcome message appears about 1 minute after connecting (as described in the example comments of the default messages.xml).
I have the same issue with my server on windows. Since 1.30 no message that is set in messages.xml is shown. Worked fine the morning before the Update.
I am having the exact same problem with the messages.xml. I have tried unmodded and modded. I have reinstalled multiple times and used different PCs. I have verified files. The same messages.xml works perfectly on a windows 11 PC running the server. But on a Linux PC, No messages and no shutdown. The log file has it listed, so the server knows it is there. I have tried hosting all the offical maps with no result.
I've tried every possible method to get server messages working. Everything works perfectly fine on Windows, and the XML files are read without any issues. However, on Debian 13, nothing works after the 1.30 update. I've tested every method I could think of, checked the files and permissions, and still got zero results. 😕 After rolling back to DayZ version 1.29, all server messages are working perfectly again. The issue only occurs on version 1.30 running on Debian 13.
Does anyone have any idea what could be preventing the game from reading the messages.xml file on Linux? Could something have changed in the way the game handles server messages in the 1.30 update?
Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated!
