Description

When my VKB S-TECS Modern Throttle Max (STEM) is connected, mouse interaction in the inventory becomes severely unreliable. Drag & drop usually does not work and some mouse actions only succeed occasionally.

Disconnecting the throttle immediately restores normal inventory behavior. Reconnecting it immediately reproduces the issue.

Importantly, another throttle device works normally in the same setup, so the issue does not appear to affect all HOTAS/throttle devices.

Additional diagnostic testing:

  • Diag Device = mouse receives every mouse button press and mouse movement correctly, even while the issue is occurring.

  • InventoryContext remains active and unchanged.

  • Inventory_drag is triggered correctly and remains active while the mouse button is held.

  • Mouse X/Y input is received correctly during the attempted drag.

  • Despite this, the actual inventory UI drag operation does not occur.

  • No abnormal joystick axes/buttons are visible in Diag Device = joystick.

  • Resetting the game profile, resetting/reflashing the VKB device, disabling axes, POVs, mouse/keyboard HID functions and logical buttons did not resolve the issue.

The issue is not limited to drag & drop. Mouse interaction with inventory-related UI becomes unreliable in general.

    For example:

    • Right mouse button actions in the inventory frequently do not work.

    • Middle mouse button actions also fail.

    • The issue occurs not only in the player's inventory, but also when interacting with other inventory interfaces.

    • For example, the middle mouse button may fail to open an arsenal or a vehicle's storage/trunk when the corresponding interaction is available.

This suggests that mouse input and Inventory input actions are received correctly, but the inventory UI drag/drop handling is disrupted specifically when the VKB S-TECS device is present.

Friends, I honestly have no idea what was going on yesterday or why — but today everything is working perfectly fine.

Maybe it was a Windows update. Maybe the stars aligned differently. Maybe the Martians were flying overhead yesterday and interfering with my HOTAS.

At this point, I have no reasonable explanation. :)

Sorry for the trouble and for taking your time. If the issue comes back, I’ll try to gather more information and update the report.
