Hello,
My name is Dmitriy, and I have been playing the Arma series since Arma 2.
(It is possible that some of the things I am asking about have already been announced, implemented, or are currently being worked on. If there is any information about what is planned and in what form, and I simply missed it, I would really appreciate it if you could provide a link to the relevant resource.)
I have several very important questions regarding the following topics:
The game has excellent lighting and the visuals are incredibly beautiful. However, there is a problem with the lighting inside buildings and around windows.
For example, an enemy marksman can be standing right behind a window and be completely hidden in darkness. You cannot see him until you get very close to the window or look directly through it with binoculars. This can happen even on a sunny day when sunlight is shining directly onto the window.
It is very unpleasant that many windows appear almost completely black, making it impossible to see what is inside.
I also do not quite understand what is happening with the lighting when looking into the distance. When I look forward into the distance, the image appears to become darker, while looking down at the ground makes the image brighter.
Are there any plans to address these lighting issues? Are these problems being worked on? And is there a chance that they will be addressed in Arma 4?
I really like the vehicle physics in the game. However, I have noticed a strange issue with trees.
For example, a UAZ can drive through and break some trees, but then encounter an identical-looking tree somewhere else, fail to break it, and instead get damaged or come to a complete stop.
This feels very inconsistent and strange.
Are there any plans to improve or address this issue?
The visual effects in the game are already at a good level, but I feel that the game is missing even a minimal level of building destruction.
For example, after a mortar hits the roof of a building, it would be great to see the roof collapse partially, sections of the roof being destroyed, or at least a visible hole appearing in the roof.
The same applies to RPG hits against building walls. It would be great to see visible damage — for example, part of the wall collapsing and creating an opening that players can actually see through or move through.
I understand that Arma is not Battlefield, and that large-scale destruction is not the main focus of the game. However, mechanics like these would greatly improve the feeling of heavy urban combat. Buildings would actually show the aftermath of the fighting, with holes in walls and visible bullet and explosion damage, which would add a lot to the atmosphere of war.
Explosion effects are a particularly noticeable issue for me.
For example, when firing an RPG, it looks very strange to see a grey tracer-like trail behind the projectile, followed by an explosion that looks almost like something from Half-Life or Garry's Mod. 😅
There is also a problem with RPG impacts on vehicles.
When an RPG hits an APC, for example, the wheels do not seem to come off, parts of the vehicle's hull do not break away, and there is no visible ammunition explosion or secondary detonation.
The same applies to lighter vehicles.
One exception is the Ural loaded with ammunition, which already has an ammunition detonation effect. However, unfortunately, even after the ammunition detonates, the vehicle does not appear to be torn apart, and the cargo cover/tarp does not even seem to be blown apart.
I feel that the game is missing some additional visual detail and physical reaction to explosions.
Are there any plans to address these issues? Are improvements to vehicle destruction and explosion effects planned? And could we expect these systems to be improved in Arma 4?
The sound design in the game is very good. My main problem is that sometimes sounds simply fail to load or play.
For example, I have had situations where APCs and vehicles were driving right next to me completely silently.
There have also been several occasions where an enemy soldier ran right up to me without making any sound at all. Only after I visually noticed him did the sound suddenly start playing.
This can be especially problematic during close-quarters combat because you rely heavily on sound to understand what is happening around you.
Are there any plans to improve sound loading and prevent these audio issues?
OS: Windows 10
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D — 8 cores
RAM: 32 GB
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti
I play on maximum settings
Thank you for taking the time to read my questions.
I really enjoy Arma and have been playing the series since Arma 2. I understand that development is a complex process, but I would really appreciate any information regarding whether these issues are known and whether there are plans to address them in the future. Waiting for Arma 4, YOU ARE THE BEST )))
Thank you!👍
