This section outlines a multi-stage, player-driven intelligence processing system designed to simulate realistic battlefield document handling and classification. The goal is to encourage teamwork, leadership responsibility, and thoughtful gameplay by making intel gathering and processing a meaningful, immersive loop.
Collection: Players gather physical documents and maps from enemy combatants on the battlefield, being mindful of what kind of “intelligence” they are looking for.
Initial Sorting: At a command tent or FOB, players perform a rough, intuitive sorting of documents into a simple inventory grid interface (e.g., filing cabinet, briefcase, or sorting table). This phase is based on players' battlefield recollection and desire to speed up processing, without requiring prior knowledge of specific intel categories.
Processing: Grouped documents enter a timed processing phase, during which the system analyzes and classifies the intel. Processing time may decrease when more related documents are submitted together and when enemy maps are added.
Classification and Extraction: After processing, documents are classified into categories (Base, Gear, Unit, Vehicle) based on analysis results. Players receive actionable intel as reports when a single file is processed or a dossier when multiple are processed in a single stack with variable quality and XP rewards.
Secure Filing: Dossiers and reports can be combined and processed further for more intel, provided there are more matching documents and maps added. Completed dossiers must be manually filed at a secure location such as the Main Operations Base (MOB) or Liaison Office (to be added here:#ARGF-528 ) to unlock faction-wide benefits and temporary interaction speed boosts.
When players have limited information about enemy group origins, objectives, or supply levels at bases, offering rewards such as increased XP, secret cache locations, and interaction speed boosts for securing dossiers encourages them to pay closer attention to enemy roles and details during the collection phase.
Questions like "Was this combatant a driver?", "Did this group attack from the same direction?", or "Where did this soldier get so much supply?" promote communication and collaboration before sorting documents, improving classification efficiency.
While not mandatory, being mindful of this information helps speed up the processing phase.
The sorting interface is designed to be straightforward and intuitive: players place documents into an inventory grid on a sorting table or filing cabinet, choosing to either stack them together if the metadata matches or keep them as individual files if uncertain. Players don’t need to know the exact categories beforehand, as these categories emerge organically from the processing results.
Adding more documents to an ongoing processing batch speeds up the timer only when the documents belong to the same category, reflecting the analyzer’s improved context and pattern recognition that allows it to process related documents more efficiently. However, if unrelated documents are grouped together, the analyzer must split the batch into separate reports, which results in a slightly longer total processing time than processing the documents individually.
This creates a strategic gamble: grouping documents can accelerate processing if done correctly, but mixing categories risks delays as the system double-checks and separates the data.

Processing takes a measurable amount of in-game time (e.g., 1-2 hours), displayed via a timer and watch icon (finally an actual use to check the time!).
Submitting enemy maps on top of document stacks accelerates processing.
Successful processing yields one random piece of actionable intel in the form of a report for a single document or a dossier when a stack matches metadata flags in a category.
Reports and dossiers can be combined and processed further for more intel, provided at least one new document, report or dossier with matching category and map is added.
XP rewards vary based on the condition of the documents and the rank of the enemy combatant.
When filing dossiers, players receive either a temporary interaction speed boost—aligned with recent developer updates rewarding specialized roles (locked at spawn rather than group change?)—or a valuable reward such as the location of an abandoned enemy vehicle, gear, intel, or supply cache.
By investing additional time to process matching dossiers, players can combine multiple rewards into a single dossier, encouraging thorough intel gathering.
These boosts and secret caches incentivize thoughtful mission completion and returning to base, discouraging reckless rushing of objectives.
Players must manually file dossiers at secure locations (MOB or Liaison Office).
Filing enables group-wide benefits such as temporary interaction speed boosts and/or special supply, gear or abandoned enemy vehicle locations for the team.
This step requires player collaboration and strategic decision-making, preventing full AI automation.
Maps require reworking (see issue here). With the introduction of this intel boost feature, maps may need to be removed from arsenals and the command tent, or alternatively, an enemy combatant metadata tag should be added. This would prevent players from stockpiling maps in their inventories solely to exploit and accelerate intel processing.
Maps should have a chance of being damaged/destroyed on player death, acting as a consumable intel currency; or this could be implied by the variability of XP gains.
