Description

Inspired by Soviet Deep Operations doctrine, Task Allocation Points (T.A.P.) provide commanders with a clear and manageable resource to oversee their faction’s operational focus. This system models a faction’s finite capacity to assign and manage tasks within its area of responsibility, balancing player freedom with strategic command limits.

Guiding AI Prioritization Through Task Values

T.A.P. is crucial not only for human players but also for the AI CO, helping it prioritize tasks strategically rather than defaulting to simplistic behaviors like placing seize tasks on every enemy base. Each task is assigned a value reflecting its tactical importance, proximity to friendly radio signals, and risk level. This encourages the AI to focus on high-impact objectives and plan more effectively.

Tactical Weight for Map-Affecting Actions

Actions once overlooked—such as resetting squad leader markers or deploying manpacks—consume T.A.P., adding meaningful tactical weight to map decisions. Advanced features like Radio Direction Finding (RDF see #ARGF-530 ) and real-time intelligence from UAVs or satellites could share this cooldown mechanic, ensuring every command choice carries consequence. Properly balanced, T.A.P. could enable emergency supply drops or cinematic aerial and naval bombardments.

Smooth Command Flow with Visual Feedback

To maintain smooth command flow, subtle notifications alert the CO when approaching their T.A.P. limit or when group leaders request additional tasks. Critical tasks like “Establish Base” are automatically disabled once the faction reaches its base limit to prevent overextension. A clear, thematic UI gauge tracks T.A.P. usage, making command management intuitive and rewarding.

Dynamic Surplus and Deficit States

Completing tasks may push T.A.P. into a surplus state, unlocking bonuses such as supply boosts at friendly ports or XP boosts at key objectives. Conversely, running low could cause markers or tasks to disappear or be canceled, and slow supply regeneration—adding a dynamic layer to command decisions. Higher-risk tasks could yield greater rewards, encouraging bold but calculated command choices.

In essence, Task Allocation Points are the unseen hand guiding the chaos of battle, turning a flood of possibilities into a coherent, actionable plan. This system improves performance and clarity while opening exciting avenues for future tactical tools and innovations.
