My microphone suddenly stopped working in DayZ while I was already playing the game. Before this happened, voice chat worked normally, including my physical microphone and soundboard.
Since then, DayZ's microphone/voice activity meter does not respond at all when I speak. Other players cannot hear me through DayZ voice chat.
The same physical microphone works normally in Windows, Steam's microphone test, and other games. Windows also shows DayZ accessing the microphone while DayZ is running and I am testing the microphone, but DayZ's own voice activity meter remains completely inactive.
The problem has persisted for months and also persists after moving to a completely different PC.
Voice chat originally worked normally. The problem appeared suddenly while I was already playing DayZ. I was using my soundboard at the time, and another player complained about it shortly before I noticed that my microphone had stopped working.
I do not know whether those events were related, and I am not claiming that another player caused the problem or that I was muted/reported.
The problem has continued for months and through multiple Windows updates.
The most important symptom is that Windows receives the microphone normally and shows DayZ accessing the microphone, but DayZ's own voice activity meter never responds.
This occurs with both my physical microphone and my soundboard input.
The problem also persists with a fresh DayZ configuration and on a different PC, which makes a corrupted local DayZ configuration or defective microphone hardware unlikely.
