Dear DayZ Development Team,
I am writing from Belarus, and DayZ has been one of my favorite games for many years — its atmosphere and setting resonate with me deeply. I would like to share a suggestion regarding the core base-building system, specifically its application on the classic map of Chernarus. I, like many in the community, believe this is a fundamental part of the game that is currently underdeveloped and creates frustration, especially on official servers.
1. The Terrain Limitation (Chernarus Specific):
The current placement rules are extremely restrictive on uneven ground. You cannot build on slopes steeper than roughly 20 degrees or through bushes. On a map like Chernarus, where a significant portion of the north is mountainous, this makes vast areas effectively useless for base construction. Suggestion: Please consider a system that allows for more flexible placement on slopes, or introduce base-building items (like foundations or stilts) designed specifically for uneven terrain.
2. Interior Building Restrictions:
Building inside existing structures is needlessly difficult. On official servers, fence kits cannot be placed if they intersect with static furniture (tables, chairs, wardrobes). This severely limits players who want to fortify houses. Suggestion: Allow greater freedom for placing objects inside buildings, similar to how it works on many community servers, without requiring players to completely gut the house first.
3. Missing Core Features:
The base-building system has not seen major updates in years. Simple, high-impact features are missing, such as:
Boarding up windows with planks and nails.
Half-sized walls and gates for tighter fortifications.
The ability to turn watchtower walls into gates to save materials and reduce placement issues.
4. Regarding the Future (Badlands DLC):
I understand a new rebuilding system is coming with the DayZ Badlands expansion. However, I, and many others, hope that the core improvements to base building are not exclusive to the new DLC/map (Nasdara). Please consider bringing foundational fixes—especially terrain adaptation and interior placement—to Chernarus and other base maps to improve the experience for the entire player base.
Base building is a major reason players invest hundreds of hours in DayZ. A meaningful update to this system would be incredibly well-received. As a player from Belarus who truly loves your game, I would be very happy to see Chernarus receive more base-building love.
Thank you for your time and continued support of the game.
Best regards,
[Viktor]
