Hi everyone,
I'd like to share my experience with the extreme heat system in DayZ Badlands and hear what other players think.
First of all, I completely understand that DayZ is a survival game. Harsh weather conditions, limited resources, and environmental challenges are part of what makes the game interesting.
However, I honestly feel that the heat system in Badlands has gone a little too far.
Between approximately 8 AM and 6 PM (in-game time), playing becomes almost impossible. My character constantly reaches the red temperature level, even when I take every possible precaution.
I've tried everything:
Staying in the shade and moving through forests or buildings.
Removing clothing to reduce overheating.
Cooling down with water.
Avoiding unnecessary running.
Carrying up to seven bottles of water.
At one point, I drank three bottles of water in just 15 minutes, and my character was still overheating!
I've even lost a character because of the extreme heat, despite having plenty of water.
The most frustrating part is that I sometimes have no choice but to disconnect and wait for the in-game temperature to drop before I can continue playing.
And that's where I think there's a real problem.
I enjoy challenging survival mechanics, but there is a difference between making a game difficult and making it practically unplayable for a large part of the day.
What is the point of a survival game if the best survival strategy is to stop playing?
I'm not asking for the heat mechanic to be removed. I simply believe it needs better balancing so that players can adapt, survive, and continue enjoying the game without constantly being forced to log out.
I'd genuinely like to hear from other players. Are you experiencing the same issue? Do you think the current heat system is balanced, or does it need some adjustments?
Hopefully, the developers will take this feedback into consideration.
Thanks for reading, and stay safe out there, survivors!
Steps to reproduce:
Join an official DayZ Badlands server.
Play during daytime, especially between approximately 8 AM and 6 PM (in-game time).
Move around normally, even while avoiding running and staying in shaded areas.
Remove unnecessary clothing to reduce body temperature.
Drink plenty of water and use water to cool down.
Observe how quickly the character's temperature reaches the red warning level despite these precautions.
Expected result:
Extreme heat should make survival challenging but still manageable through appropriate strategies, such as hydration, resting in the shade, reducing physical activity, and adjusting clothing.
Players should be able to continue exploring and surviving during daylight hours if they take the necessary precautions.
Actual result:
The character repeatedly overheats, even when taking all reasonable precautions.
On one occasion, I consumed three bottles of water in approximately 15 minutes, yet my character continued overheating.
I have already lost a character due to extreme heat despite having sufficient water available.
The situation becomes so frustrating that I regularly have to disconnect and wait for cooler in-game conditions before continuing.
Additional comments:
I fully understand that DayZ is designed to be a challenging survival experience, and I appreciate that aspect of the game.
However, I believe the current heat mechanics on Badlands need to be reviewed and better balanced.
A survival game should reward preparation, adaptation, and good decision-making, rather than forcing players to stop playing for a significant part of the in-game day.
If the most effective way to survive extreme heat is to disconnect from the game, something is clearly wrong with the gameplay balance.
Thank you for looking into this issue.
I expect the extreme heat system in DayZ Badlands to provide a challenging but balanced survival experience.
Players who take appropriate precautions, such as staying in the shade, drinking enough water, reducing physical activity, removing unnecessary clothing, and cooling themselves down, should be able to manage their body temperature and continue playing during daylight hours.
Extreme heat should remain dangerous, but it should not make the game practically unplayable between 8 AM and 6 PM.
Survival should depend on preparation, resource management, and smart decisions, rather than forcing players to disconnect and wait for temperatures to drop.
I am not asking for the heat mechanic to be removed, only for it to be better balanced so that the game remains both challenging and enjoyable.
The goal should be to survive the environment, not to survive by quitting the game.
