What happened?

Before 1.30 you could see players up to 1100m, and then a few hundred meters after that the terrain would gradually fade to fog. Buildings were visible right up until the fog made them invisible.

Since 1.30, Now the thick fog starts around 900m altogether. Meaning we now see players 200m less far than before, and the terrain past that is not really visible at all. On top of this, you can see buildings load/unload before your eyes as you travel towards/away from buildings. Not only is this a nerf to traversal and player view distance, it also just visually looks way worse than before.

I have tested this to the best of my ability with the rangefinder (I'm well aware it only measures distance up to 999m).

I have also tested this at different elevation levels, at different times of day, with clear skies and cloud. And it is clearly less than 1.29

This was tested on PS5.

As much as I hate to concur with a ps5 player, he is 100% right. Even with settings cranked up to max this occurs on PC too.

Another example on sakhal on Xbox, credit to reddit user u/DayZInTheRain. You can see how the ship on sakhal pops in and out at around 800m.

Nice to see someone getting in first with this. Gives me hope that the devs will take it seriously. Sometimes I submit bugs and nothing happens at all.

    Let us prey.

    That's insane.

I had assumed that PC couldn't be impacted by this because you can select the rendering distance and details of what is rendered within that space.

So on PC right now the max rendering distance is approximately 800m?

How are there not more reports about this?

It's a total downgrade for all players.

Idk if it's exactly 800m; I'll try and check next time I'm on. Maybe a little further than 800. But walking thru the map, especially Nasdara since everything is so wide open, feels like traveling through a "fog" that reveals as you move for sure. You can even scope in on distant towns with a big power scope like the pso 6 and the zombies and details wont render

This is with view distance set to Extreme, as well as terrain quality, etc, anything that impacts render distance

Ive further tested and it seems buildings/assets pop in at bout 807m and the fog that you can't see any terrain past is roughly 900m.

I didn't have a rangefinder but this is looking at Bala Hissar from near COP Kestral, probably right around the 900m mark. For me none of the castle is loading in but for my buddies standing right next to me they can see the castle and trees beyond. We all play on base PS5 with the same resolution.

Ok, so I've tested different settings on DayZ on Steam on PC.

I don't see the rendering issues on PC at all. It's working as expected.

You can select from minimum to extreme for Terrain Visibility ( how near or far the fog starts to obscure/hide things) and Object Visibility ( how near or far objects such as trees, buildings etc [ basically the world details ] start disappearing as you're looking at them in the distance ).

On minimum Terrain Visibility the fog starts at something like 200-300 metres. At extreme I can't see it at all.

On minimum Object Visibility the world details stop appearing at about 200-300 metres and then it's just blank terrain textures like you see when you reach the outskirts of maps. At extreme there are world details as far as the eye can see.

Point being that I can make the rendering distance and detail whatever I want, so it's not like what's currently happening on the console versions.

I don't know if this is a bug based on what I've seen. It appears more likely that graphical settings have been altered.

But there are PC players saying otherwise as well as console players saying that only some people are affected by this.

Personally, I think that BI reduced both Terrain Visibility and Object Visibility on all console versions.

I think Terrain went from High to Medium and Object went from High/Medium to Medium/Low.

For reference, all Terrain and Object settings go: Minimum>Poor>Low>Medium>High>Very High>Extreme.

Anyone else can chime in with their findings but this seems to be the simplest explanation:

BI reduced console graphics to improve performance.

The question is, will they revert it back?

    I have GTX 4070.

You should be able to test this on your card as I don't think the min>extreme options existing are card dependent.

It just means that your fps could drop significantly at higher levels. For my testing purposes the fps didn't really matter.

I can't see past 300m on chernarus.. it's already super hazey and foggy on 200 meters, Nasdara maybe 600m tops. Tried reinstalling game and seemed like it got worse.

Do you have any screenshots? 300m is absolutely diabolical if true. - assuming this isn't the "sea mist" that you get in coastal areas.

Just wanted to add that I was playing last night watching two players run off from the Oasis. I watched them dissapear out of render distance while my buddy could still see them. So it's not just objects but also players.

This has been reported as well on my server and I internally tested it as well.
