If you place a barrel under a watchtower the build menu prevents you from looking in vicinity to see what is in the barrel. You can’t do anything with the barrel depending on its location on the ground floor of the watchtower.

Build a 2 floor watchtower, place a barrel on the ground floor. Try to open it or see the contents of the barrel.

You won’t be able to interact with or see the contents of the barrel.
