Description

When using the manual clutch the engine on Russian vehicles will stall and cut off when shifting gears. It doesn't matter if the clutch is assigned to a button or an axis.

Test:

  1. set up gameplay settings:

    1. Set driving assistance to: "None".

    2. Set "Manual clutch" to: "Yes".

  2. Assign axis control for clutch in Joystick - Vehicles -> "Clutch".

  3. Test drive:

    1. Set up Soviet vehicle with player as driver.

    2. Activate clutch control.

    3. Start engine.

    4. Shift gear.

Current result: The test sequence currently results in the engine stalling out even before the clutch is engaged.

Expected result: The engine keeps running while executing the test sequence and that this remains so until the clutch makes contact and that success depends on the speed of clutch engagement. (as is the case with a real car or truck)

Relevant Hardware:

Logitech G920 wheel and pedals

OS/Software:

OpenSUSE Tumbleweed with kernel Linux 7.2.6-1-default

Proton Experimental

    Hello.
We have tested but did not find any issues.

What you are describing is intentional feature and presumably is just confusion regarding how to start and drive regular vehicle irl. The main issue is that you put a gear in and release the clutch before pressing the gas pedal which results in engine stalling. This is the correct order of actions.

    • start vehicle

    • press clutch

    • put a gear in (don't release the clutch)

    • press gas pedal (reforger is quite generous with this and thus you can just fully press the gas pedal without any issues)

    • release the clutch -> car should start moving forward without engine stalling

I know how to drive a car, I've had a driving license for over 15 years and I have driven stick shift for most of that time.

    some notes:

    • I'm actually starting the engine after pressing the clutch, as you would IRL.

    • I'm using about 50% throttle, which is very generous compared to other car games and IRL. Normally you'd give about 30%.

Update: The engine will stall using this with the default assignment method. If I go to the advanced assigment, there is no modifier active. If I change it to analog value, without changing anything else, this all of a sudden works. The movement of the foot in the game appears exactly the same.

Another observation: if the axis assignment has been made via the default way, so without going through advanced assignment, the engine will stall even if the clutch pedal is fully pressed down when starting the engine in gear.

There is a huge problem with analog assigments, see #AREXP-483 , which might work on your end with your very special way of assigning things, but nobody will ever understand, as you're using very non-standard ways to assign axis.
