Experimental Version
Mission
Is it modded?
Description
I like building defenses, but razor wire already feels hard to justify in Conflict. Setting up a proper defensive position takes time, supplies, and coordination. You also have to place it carefully so it wears the enemy down without annoying your own team. I have already had people tell me to stop wasting my time and our resources building razor wire, so I worry these changes will make that even worse.
I think explosives damaging razor wire is a strong counter already. Explosives are loud, powerful, limited, and obvious. If the enemy uses explosives to clear wire, they are spending resources and revealing that they are attacking that area. That feels fair because the defense still forced the enemy to spend something (I particularly like C4 charges being the best at it).
My concern is with making razor wire too easy for infantry to remove in this experimental update. The builder has to spend time hauling supplies, placing the wire, and creating a useful perimeter, but the enemy only needs to open one gap for the whole line to lose a lot of its value. Once there is a hole, the rest of the wire matters much less.
Razor wire should have a counter, but those counters need to respect the time investment of building it. If the effort needed to destroy it is much lower than the effort needed to build it, then defensive building becomes harder to justify. It also gives teammates more reason to bash players for building defenses at all, because they can just say the enemy will break it anyway.
I do not think razor wire should be indestructible. I just think explosives are already a fair counter because they cost resources, make noise, and create risk. Making it easier to remove without that kind of commitment could make defensive play feel even more pointless than it already does.
Much love from a defensive engi ❤ - Crass
