What happened?

Wringing clothing takes the same amount of time for each level of saturation.

This is unrealistic, at the highest levels it should take the least time, maybe a second at most, at the lowest it should take longer and damage clothing slightly.

Currently shoes cannot be wrung out, this is not entirely realistic either. You can press the water out of most athletic shoes to the point where they are not soaked, and more just wet or damp. This will wear them if you do it often enough, but as long as you don't bend the soles of the shoe, it shouldn't hurt the shoe in any major way.

Certain models of military boots in the game are most likely leather based, turning them upside down should eliminate most of the saturation, leaving them only damp or wet.

Adjusting the game to reflect this reality would simplify the gameplay loop and save players countless hours of wringing clothing. (Nobody wants to do this.)

Reproduction steps
  • Wringing clothing should take less time at the highest levels of saturation, and more time at the lower levels of saturation.

  • Wringing clothing should not damage clothing at the highest levels of saturation, but do more damage to clothing at the lowest levels of saturation. (Wring damp to shorten the timer, but do most damage.)

  • Wringing athletic and casual shoes should be possible, down to the wet or damp level. (Dress shoes should remain un-wringable, but should be able to be pressed from drenched to soaked.)

  • Everything should be able to be pressed from drenched to soaked.

  • The leather based military boots should be able to be turned upside down to eliminate most of the moisture down to the wet level or damp level.

An idea: You could make boots that are drenched have a pour option, that gives about 10% of a water bottle.

This would give players who are desperate the option to drink boot water, but only at the drenched level and only a very small amount of water.

The more you pour off, the shorter the timer of the drenched status. (I'm not sure how it works, I'm assuming it's a timer.)

I also made a ticket years ago saying gloves on your hands should get wet when wringing clothing, so you need to always wring them last.

Wringing my clothing reminds me of the hardcore survival experience that DayZ embodies. When you're cold, shaky, hungry and tired, wringing clothes takes time. Even though wetter clothing would take less time to wring, the wringing in and of itself tires the character, so it makes sense that the subsequent wrings would take equal amounts of time despite the lesser degree of wetness. Calls for less wring time are typically from players desiring a higher-speed, PvP focused experience. These players want to wring their clothes faster so they can more quickly get back to QE leaning and PvPing instead of having a hardcore survival experience.
