Description

After updating Arma Reforger Dedicated Server to version 1.8.0.10, a serious resource-loading issue appears whenever any addon is loaded on the server.

A completely vanilla dedicated server starts normally without these errors. However, as soon as even a single Workshop addon is enabled, the server begins producing a very large number of thermal profile resource errors during material finalization.

Typical errors include:
GetResourceObject @"{CC547D988287BF7C}system/thermal/thermalProfileDefault.conf"

RESOURCES (E): Failed to open

'system/thermal/thermalProfileDefault.conf' is not a valid thermal profile!

The same behavior also occurs with several other default thermal profiles, including the grass, terrain, tree crown and tree trunk profiles.

We have already verified that these thermal profile files are physically present in the original addons/core/data.pak, and the original core/resourceDatabase.rdb contains the expected resource paths and GUIDs.

The problem is reproducible with completely unrelated third-party Workshop addons, so it does not appear to be caused by one specific mod.
Multiple independent server owners have also reported/reproduced this behavior after the 1.8 update.

The server may eventually finish loading, but the amount of resource error spam is extremely large and significantly increases startup time and log size. It also makes it much harder for server administrators and mod developers to identify legitimate errors in their logs.
We would greatly appreciate if this issue could be investigated with high priority. Modded dedicated servers are very widely used in the Reforger community, and because the problem is reproducible simply by enabling an addon, it affects a potentially large number of community servers regardless of which mods they use.

I’m not sure if you’ve already found a proper solution for the thermal profile spam issue, but I accidentally came across a workaround today. After a lot of testing, it’s been working 100% consistently for me. The important part is that this mod has to be the second-to-last mod in the load order. The last mod can be anything. I also tried fixing it with different thermal profiles, but I couldn’t get those to work. For some reason, this setup does. If you want, give it a try and let me know if it works for you too. https://reforger.armaplatform.com/workshop/6A2D225741ADFDB4-ThermalProfileFix

    Reproduced on Dedicated Server 1.8.0.10.

    Control: Vanilla GM Everon, no Workshop addons — 0 thermalProfileDefault.conf errors.

    WCS_Core 8.0.2 only (64610AFB74AA9842) + vanilla GM Everon — 150,188 thermalProfileDefault.conf log references / 75,094 failed lookups.

    Enfusion Database Framework only (5D6EA74A94173EDF) + vanilla GM Everon — exactly the same 150,188 references / 75,094 failed lookups.

    RHS Status Quo + Content Packs 1 & 2 + vanilla GM Everon — 153,932 references / 76,966 failed lookups.

    In all cases the repeated failure is:
    {CC547D988287BF7C}system/thermal/thermalProfileDefault.conf
    RESOURCES (E): Failed to open
    'system/thermal/thermalProfileDefault.conf' is not a valid thermal profile!

    The dedicated server eventually reaches GAME, but the same resource storm appears to contribute to extremely long/stalled client loading and connection/query timeouts on larger mod stacks.

    Yeah, it looks like this is basically the same issue, just described a bit differently.

    I opened this one because I could reproduce it consistently on dedicated servers as soon as any addon is loaded, and I also collected some extra info about the thermal profile errors.

    From what I’ve seen, and from what other server owners told me, this seems to be a broader issue affecting modded dedicated servers after the 1.8 update, not something tied to one specific server, host, mod, or setup.

    In my opinion, this is something that should be addressed fairly urgently, since it seems to affect a large part of the modded server community and generates a huge amount of resource errors on startup.

    If it turns out to be the same root issue, I’m totally fine with this being marked as a duplicate. I can also add my findings to the original ticket if that helps.

    This mod worked well. The numerous errors have almost completely disappeared, and the server now starts up right away. Thank you.

    I tested your exact setup and it works for me. The issue is the load order — Thermal Profile Fix needs to be the second-to-last mod, with exactly one mod after it.

    So with your mods, try:

    {

    "modId": "5D6EA74A94173EDF",

    "name": "Enfusion Database Framework",

    "version": "0.6.10"

    },

    {

    "modId": "5D6EBC81EB1842EF",

    "name": "Enfusion Persistence Framework",

    "version": "0.6.18"

    },

    {

    "modId": "6A2D225741ADFDB4",

    "name": "Thermal Profile Fix",

    "version": "1.0.1"

    },

    {

    "modId": "CAFEBEEFF0CACC1A",

    "name": "Freedom Fighters",

    "version": "0.70.0"

    }

    Then do a full server restart and check a fresh log.

    thx so much! The errors are gone but my game is still crashing sadly, looking at the log its unrelated to the thermal profile fix mod so i will try and fix that myself
